Fantasy Degree Show

For my previous degree show idea, I hadn’t actually decided on how I was going to present my work and was struggling with how to incorporate the QR codes but inspiration struck me on seeing the artworks by Jacob Hashimoto and suddenly everything fell into place. For my final fantasy degree show plan, I would want to have 4 separate “panels” of hanging Petri dishes that follow the rate of bacterial growth line.

The Petri dishes would be sealed and have live bacteria growing in them that would be revealed as the show goes on - becoming not only living art but also an ongoing artwork for as long as the show goes on for. In certain Petri dishes, there would be QR codes for the viewers to scan which would reveal face filters that are made up of some of the bacteria grown from human specimens.

The lighting in the room would alternate between pink and purple but would primarily be purple to indicate the presence of bacteria according to Gram Stain method. Audio of hand washing or running water would be played into the space to further reinforce the viewer to want to wash their hands or make them feel like they need to clean themselves.
